Help me to help my friends over at Operation Friendship as they drive to collect over 10,000 socks for vulnerable Edmontonians! As the temperature begins to drop these vulnerable seniors will need warm, dry socks to battle off the cold days and nights.
I first learned of Operation Friendship back when I was a Home Care Case Manager working in the inner city.. This organization is dedicated to supporting vulnerable and homeless older adults over 55 years of age in Edmonton. They usually have a drop in centre for these older adults to get out of the cold during the day, before the shelters open up. Due to COVID they’ve had to keep the doors closed, and have resorted to bringing out coffee and hot chocolate…and now they are handing out bagged lunches with a package of socks.
I’m working with them to help collect new socks (for men and for women) and I’m hoping you’re able to help as well over the next 3 weeks.
If you’d like to donate some new socks, please contact me and I’ll be happy to pick them up from you and deliver to the team at Operation Friendship downtown.
There are some other items they are looking for as well. So as you clean out your closets, let me know if you have any of the following items in good gently used condition, that are laundered and ready to donate:
- Winter Jackets
- Hoodies
- Sweat Pants
- Coffee
- Brown Lunch Bags
- Toques
- Mitts / Gloves
- Scarves
- Hot Chocolate
- Disposable Coffee Cups
I’m happy to arrange a time to pick up of any of these items from you between now and November 15. This organization does so much good work helping these older adults manage life on the street, and helps many transition into specialty housing as well.
